10.6 calendula a few weeks ago i picked up a new kind of toothpaste made with calendula, from Weleda, which is why i chose it, because it reminded me of the Weleda calendula baby oil i was gifted when you were born, that i gently massaged into your new skin, the scent takes me right back to the first days, early october, the crunch of leaves in the honey light, the afternoon of your birth, with our children friends watching through the window of the backroom of our little rental on ponderosa, my pink tshirt and our tears as we could feel a bit of divine grace enter our lives. i tore a bit with the birth, but instead of stitches used a comfrey and calendula compress, lying on the bed in the autumn sunbeam, like magic the tissues wove back together with the power of the herbs, so now in my mind calendula equals goodness, equals those open raw days of newborn wonder. last year when i first saw the calendula flower nonchalant in my friend’s garden i was surprised by its simple presence, looking like a bright orange daisy when i knew it to be an agent of divine magic and supreme healing, i remember that full moon that brought you to us, and so much that’s happened since, the ordinary days flickering by in the wind through the maples and I am celebrating our time together then and now, who you are, your healing properties, your light
