10 Forgotten Superstars of WCW We all know that Ric Flair, - TopicsExpress

10 Forgotten Superstars of WCW We all know that Ric Flair, Sting and Hulk Hogan dominated WCW and sent shock waves through the business, but what about the other “superstars” that barely made a ripple? Here is a list of my top 10 Forgotten Superstars of WCW! 10. Maxx Muscle image This meat-head was a bottom of the barrel lackey, and served as a bodyguard for DDP in the mid 90’s. Remember when he finally made an impact as a member of Kevin Sullivan’s Dungeon of Doom? Yeah, me neither. 9. Keith and Kent Cole (The Cole Twins) image No relation to the voice of Raw, Michael Cole. What could be more exciting than a set of wrestling twins with legendary blonde flat top mullets? A lot of things actually. These generic jobbers left WCW in 1994. Most people still haven’t noticed. Fun Fact: According to the Pro Wrestling Illustrated Archives, this tag-team was the 2nd runner-up as Rookie of The Year in 1993. 8. Frank Andersson image Name a pro wrestler who won an Olympic medal. Now forget about Kurt Angle and Ken Patera. Andersson of Sweden won a bronze medal in Greco-Roman Wrestling in the 1985 Olympics. You’d think he would have had a successful wrestling career, right? Wrong. He failed. 7. Chip Minton image Ok, so maybe Andersson wasn’t the ideal choice for an Olympic crossover in WCW. Enter Chip Minton. The bronze medalist Olympic bobsledder made his PPV debut in a semi main event. Unfortunately, so did 59 other people in the 3 ring battle royal that was WCW World War 3. When you share ring space with Scott Putski and Sgt. Buddy Lee Parker, your days are numbered. 6. The Patriots Hailing from “WCW Special Forces”, Firebreaker Chip and Todd Champion image Lets not address the fact that these guy look like something straight out of the Top Rope Promotion. This tag-team actually held the WCW US Tag Team titles. Despite Todd Champion and Curtis “Chip” Thompson having modest success in the USWA and Pacific Northwest, respectively, their WCW career failed to ::ahem::… catch fire with the fans. 5. The Yeti image Poor Ron Reis, despite being around 7 feet tall and trained by WWE Hall of Famer Big John Studd, this giant failed to measure up. He was a member of Raven’s Flock as Reese, but he is best known for his brief appearance at Halloween Havoc 1995 where he appeared wrapped in toilet paper as a yeti/mummy. It’s here he would perform an epic double bear hug on Hulk Hogan, with the help of The Giant. The toilet paper would’ve been better used to wipe the fan’s minds of this disturbing incident. 4. The Colossal Kongs image Awesome Kong (the overweight male one, not to be confused with the overweight female one that actually has talent) and King Kong were on the fast track in WCW. Too bad it was to the unemployment line. Even with wrestling god Harley Race as their manager, this “half ton of holy hell” had as much WCW success as the Cole Twins (see above). 3. Mongolian Mauler image This black eyed freak (no literally, his eyes were all black) actually once teamed with Steve Austin in WCW. They were both managed by Col. Robert Parker. He also had matches with Flyin’ Brian Pillman. In the blink of a (black) eye, he was gone from WCW. 2. Motor City Madman image He was a “Paul Heyman guy” way back in 1990, but not for long. This Village People reject actually appeared at Starrcade 1990 teaming with ‘The Big Cat’ Curtis Hughes losing to The Skyscrapers team of Sid Vicious and Dan Spivey. So next time you wear your “I’m A Paul Heyman guy” shirt, think of this great superstar… or not. 1. Vic Steamboat image You mean Ricky Steamboat? No, V-I-C Steamboat. Yup, The Dragon’s real life younger (and creepier) brother competed inside a WCW ring. Outside of the former CWA in New England, very few fans have even heard of Vic Steamboat. His career proved to be as memorable… err forgettable as Curt Hennig’s brother Jesse, and Jerry Lawler’s OTHER wrestling son Kevin. I hope you had an unforgettable time reading “The Top 10 Forgotten WCW Superstars.” Stay tuned for more from Hurricanrana Wrestling! Why? Because WE are what’s BEST for BUSINESS. -Ryan Tourgee
