CATALAN/PR 2014-30) Calbayog City, Samar, July 31, 2014 – Ten barangays of Calbayog City participated in the recently concluded “2nd Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction Management Mini-Jamboree” – a yearly activity of the City Government of Calbayog through the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office. These are the barangays of Alibaba, Tabawan, Bugtong, Obrero, Carmen, Binaliw, Balud, Pagbalican, Bantian and Danao-1. The 3-day Mini-Jamboree held at SOS Hermann Gmeiner Compound in Brgy. Dagum which culminated July 31 Thursday was part of the city’s month-long observance of the National Disaster Consciousness Month with the theme: “Kahandaan at Kaligtasan ng Pamayanan, Pundasyon ng Kaunlaran”. During the closing program of this year’s Mini-Jamboree also held Thursday, representatives of the participating barangays thanked the city government for sending them pool of facilitators from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, City Health Office, City Social Welfare and Development Office, Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine National police, the Maritime, and the Coastguards. These offices, according to them, were very effective and instrumental in providing them inputs about rescue techniques especially in times of disasters. They also commit themselves to re-echo all they have learned in the training when they go back to their respective barangays. For his part as one of the training facilitators, CDRRMO Division Head for Operations Mr. Norberto Catalan mentioned all praises to the participants for the cooperation and enthusiasm they have shown during the entire 3-day mini-jamboree. Mr. Catalan further said that they have now partners in the barangays in saving lives. This 2nd Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Mini-Jamboree 2014 was ended with the Awarding of Certificates of Participation and Attendance, and of course, the message of Mayor Ronaldo Aquino reminding everyone to be always ready to help, and likewise, encourage other barangays to participate in the same activity next year and to other related activities the city administers for the barangays.
