10 QUESTIONS WITH CHLOTRUDIS: As we get closer to the awards ceremony on March 16th (less than 24 hours away!), weve asked our members to answer ten questions in an effort to get to know each other better. Today its: 1. Name and Chlotrudis affiliation: Michael Colford, Founder, President, Board of Directors, Nominating Committee, Member. 2. What is the first movie you remember seeing in the theater? Not sure which was first, but I remember seeing Fantasia at the Orson Welles. It was a big deal because my family didn’t go into the city very often at all. I also remember a very early drive-in visit to see a double feature of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Yellow Submarine. Weird. I know I saw Lady and the Tramp in the theater as well, and that was pretty early. 3. What is the last movie you saw and where did you see it? Like Father Like Son (Hirokazu Kore-eda) at the Kendall Square Cinema. Outstanding; 5 cats. 4. What is your favorite independent film? Not a fair question. My go to answer is usually Atom Egoyan’s The Sweet Hereafter, but Don McKellar’s Last Night is a contender as well, as is Wiebke von Carolsfeld’s Marion Bridge. 5. What movie is your guilty pleasure? Hmmm… I probably have a few. The first three that come to mind are Myra Breckenridge, The Apple, and Supergirl (cringe!). 6. What is your favorite line from a movie? Easy – and anyone who knows me will know this: “I’m beginning to doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion!” Delivered by the inimitable Beth Grant in Donnie Darko. 7. What is your favorite movie theater and why? Tough one. I really enjoy the new Bell Lightbox in Toronto, and we’ve got two of the absolute best theatres right here in the Boston area, including the Coolidge Corner Theatre, but for my favorite, I’m going to go with a sentimental favorite, the Brattle Theatre in Cambridge. 8. What is your favorite movie theater snack? I don’t really have a favorite snack at the movies. If I get anything, it’s usually popcorn with no buttery topping. 9. Have you ever attended a film festival? Which one(s)? Tons. Toronto International, Miami International, High Falls, New Orleans, Provincetown International, Independent Film Festival of Boston, Boston Women’s International Film Festival, Boston Jewish, Boston LGBT, and other local ones. 10. What is your most memorable movie-going experience? As for a favorite movie-going experience, I’m not sure I could possibly choose. Here are couple that come instantly to mind: Seeing Takashi Miike’s Audition at the Brattle. I am a notorious horror film wimp – I am easily terrified. But I was very proud to watch AUDITION and love it, while audience members fled (literally running) from the theatre when the horror really kicked in. Also, watching a panel of women in film at the Boston Women’s International Film Festival at the Brattle that included Adrienne Shelley and Christine Lahti. It was really thrilling and I was so happy to have met Ms. Shelley.
