10 THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE PENNSYLVANIA NATIONAL HORSE SHOW The Pennsylvania National Horse Show starts Thursday and runs through Saturday, October 18 • About 1,400 of the top horses and riders from across the US and from 9 foreign countries will compete. Countries represented are: Brazil, Canada, Colombia, France, Ireland, Japan, Switzerland, Russia and Australia. • Olympians and members of the US Show Jumping team that won the Silver Medal at the 2014 FEI World Equestrian Games in Normandy, France will be competing. • The Pennsylvania National Horse Show supplements the 10 days of competition with entertainment, family activities, and shopping. • Parking at the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, PA is free every day. • Tuesday evening, October 14, at 7:30 pm, ten horses rescued from abusive situations or the slaughter pipeline, who have spent 90 days with trainers, show their readiness for new careers in the Equine Comeback Challenge, sponsored by Penn Vet New Bolton Center. All will be available for adoption following the event. Admission is free Tuesday only. • Discovery Day, Saturday Oct. 11 from 1-4 pm features a childrens Activity Center, face painting, the opportunity to meet horses of many breeds face to face, and behind the scenes tours of one of the countrys largest and most prestigious equestrian events. All free with admission. • The Canadian Cowgirls perform each night, Wednesday, Oct. 15 through Saturday, October 19 following a thrilling jumper class. • Grand Prix riders leave their comfort zone to take on the Canadian Cowgirls in five-drum barrel racing, a head to head competition, following the $33,000 Keystone Classic international show jumping class Friday night, October 17 starting at 7:30 pm. Family activities and behind the scenes tours run 4-7 pm. • The Pennsylvania National Horse Show is a non-profit event that raises funds for community and equestrian groups, including therapeutic riding programs and horse rescues.
