10 Things to help prevent burglary: 1. Dont leave lots of things laying around you yard, luring potential burglars to your residence 2. Use timers or something that would lead someone to believe someones home. Most burglaries occur when a person is at work. 3. Secure Sliding Doors and Windows. 4. Dont leave a spare key hidden somewhere. A Thief looks for those in an effort to easy entry into a residence. 5. Secure your yard. Tall shrubs and overgrown trees are great hiding places for criminals. Doesnt mean to cut everything down, just keep it manicured. This is known as Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design. CPTED are strategies aimed at making it difficult for Burglars to pull off the crime in the first place.(Google it for more info if you want) 6. Get police help. Let us know when your going to be gone and we will put extra patrol and resident checks at your address to ensure the crime is stopped before it happens. We also offer free security evaluations to help locate and identify security steps that need to be implemented. 7. Prepare before vacations. Dont leave signs of an empty house that make your house look like a big bullseye. Dont put on social media that your leaving. Have someone pick up your mail and mow your lawn to make it look as if someone is still home. Dont leave a pile of newspapers in your driveway. 8. Know your neighbors. Closer-knit neighborhoods generally report few break-ins. A neighborhood watch program can be set up by our police department. 9. Stay Vigilant. Although its nice to have people watching for you, its also good for you to watch out for yourself. Pay attention to what you are doing. You could unknowingly be rolling a red carpet out for a burglar. 10. Lock it up. 40% of burglaries happen without the use of force. Lock your deadbolts, windows, and dog doors at night or when your gone. Lock the door leading from your garage. Even though your garage door is down, burglars can still get in that location.
