10-year-old from Phillipsburg gets probation after starting fire that damaged truck Saturday, January 17, 2009 FROM STAFF REPORTS BELVIDERE | A Phillipsburg boy who set fire to a discarded mattress and damaged a nearby pickup truck after the flames spread drew a 1-year probationary sentence Monday, authorities said Friday. The Warren County Prosecutors Office identified the boy as Nafiz Parker, 10, and said he was adjudicated delinquent on a charge of third-degree criminal mischief. Nafiz was playing with matches Sept. 14 on Lewis Street in Phillipsburg when he set the mattress on fire before leaving the area, the prosecutors office said. The fire caused extensive damage to the pickup belonging to Lewis Street residents Candy and Jeremy Worman, authorities said. The boy must pay $45 in penalties and restitution to the victim in an amount to be determined. He must also perform 15 hours of community service, provide a DNA sample to law-enforcement authorities, undergo fingerprinting, obtain a mental health evaluation and complete any recommended treatment, have no contact with an unidentified co-defendant, attend school and obey school rules, and write a letter of apology.
