100 years ago on this day in history Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary was taken out by a teenaged Serbian nationalist named Gavrilo Princip. This sparked a chain of events that led to the First World War. Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia a month later. A series of alliances, from the Central Powers of Austria-Hungary, Germany, and the Ottoman Empire, declare war on the Allied forces of Russia, Great Britain, and France. Russias commitment to protecting its fellow Slavic nation of Serbia sparked the other nations declarations of war on Austria-Hungary and Germany. Song partly related.
