100 years ago today, Martha, the last known Passenger Pigeon died in captivity. The conservation efforts that have been created since this tragic event of human greed continues to grow. A lot has been accomplished, but the need to protect so many species that are on the brink of extinction because of human activity is still great. This is happening in our own backyard on a daily basis. The Wood Turtle, the Piping Plover, the Right Whale are just a few examples of species that call the Maritimes home. We all need to do our part to become more aware and involved with the world that we share with all other species. RIP Martha
