#100happydays #Day4 Every month, Fire Station 33 in Modderfontein has a burnout. They literally set a training structure alight with petrol and demonstrate how firefighters douse the raging flames in a matter of minutes. Families from all over come to watch this event from an embankment a safe distance away. Yesterday, with firefighters in position and the petrol about to be set alight, a little boy a few metres away from me starting shouting to his mother: Mom! I see a frog! Its going to go into the fire! I need to save it, he said. You cant go there, said his mom. No! I need to! It doesnt know that its going into the fire! You cant go there now, said mom. I have to! In any exchange the person with the highest energy always wins and this boy was adamant that he was not going to let the frog die. Okay, where is the frog? asked mom. There, said the boy, pointing to a patch of grass 3 metres from the structure. His mom saw that it was a safe distance away, and there was time. Go quickly. The boy ran towards the frog...stopped, turned and tucked his head into his shoulders, embarrassed. Oh, he said, its not a frog. It was a crumpled leaf lying in the grass. He ran back to his family. I didnt care that it was just a leaf. People talk about bravery, selfless acts and courage, but when you see it in front of you, its moving. It ignited that sense of interconnectedness within me. Its amazing what children teach us. This boy made my day!
