11/22/63 Continued My appointment wasnt until later in the day but I wanted to see some of my friends that I hadnt talked to for quite sometime. When I walked in the personnel office where many of them worked, one of them asked whether I knew who the Vice President was. I said no but I knew his bosss name. Everyone laughed and said I was about the 20th guy who walked in the door so far and no one knew who the VP was. They had looked it up and because they were the trivia kings of the post, they were having fun playing stump the chump, as usual. Lyndon B. Johnson was the VP and I learned his wife was a bird; actually Lady Bird Johnson. I didnt know whether they were kidding me about her name but in a few days I would learn the VP was indeed married to a person called Lady Bird. My most important appointment was at 1330 Hrs. with the Posts First Sergeant who was going to present me with my new stripes because effective that day, my promotion was effective. I also needed to go to the supply room because I could no longer fit into my 28 pants. I actually went to 30W X 33L and the new attire had arrived along with the new rank that the 1ST SGT would pin on me in front of the Company Commander.
