12:12AM Houston, Texas 5/29/2014 MayorGalvan mayorgalvan James Partsch-Galvan, Almost one year ago, Senate leaders came together to approve a bipartisan, comprehensive immigration reform bill with a path to citizenship. The bill passed the Senate with flying colors, with 14 Republicans voting in favor of the measure, sending it on to the House of Representatives, and then... Nothing happened -- but you can make something happen now. For nearly a year, Republican House leaders have done nothing to reform our broken immigration system -- in fact, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor recently took major action to block an immigration reform bill from moving forward. With the help of other high-ranking House Republicans like Speaker Boehner and Representatives Goodlatte, McCarthy, and Labrador, these short-sighted politicians have ensnared the dreams of millions of immigrants and their families in political gridlock. Well, no longer. As long as our families are living under the threat of family separation, well stand up and take action. House Republican leaders do not get to decide whether reform will or will not happen. Only our movement gets to determine when the fight for reform is complete. This issue is bigger than Eric Cantor and his cronies; it has real consequences for real people and we must remind him that he is playing political games with the lives of millions of people. As of June 28th, one month from now, House Republican leaders will have managed to stall immigration reform for a full year. In that time, 408,800 immigrants were torn from their families, $2 billion were wasted on needless strong-arm enforcement, detention, and deportations, and a potential economic boon of over $12 billion was squandered. Starting today, this country will see activism around immigration reform on a massive scale. Across the country, our movement will take to the streets, and overwhelm the inboxes and phone lines of House leaders until we show them that the American people want reform passed, and that delaying reform any further will only cause more harm to our community and to the Republican Party in the long run. It starts with you. Call House Republican Leaders and tell them to wake up and pass immigration reform now! With hope, Donna De La Cruz Reform Immigration FOR America mayorgalvan
