12/23/14 The surrender… There comes a time every Christmas season that I come to the point of surrender. If I have not purchased it by this point in time, the individual is either not getting a gift or they are getting a gift card or cash. I am wiped out, stressed out and know that I more than likely forgot something or someone on my list. I fought the good fight in the world of retail, scheming, couponing, wheeling and dealing and I believe that I have given it my all. It probably sounds ironic that a man would be speaking in these terms but what you have to understand is that in my mind, I am out to beat every store, save the most money and get anything I can get from them. I am going to “will” my way into what items I want and at what I want to pay for them. 23But with loud shouts they insistently demanded that he be crucified, and their shouts prevailed. 24So Pilate decided to grant their demand. 25He released the man who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, the one they asked for, and surrendered Jesus to their will. Luke 23:23-25 NIV We know this to be in the context of when Jesus was tried and the crowd had been persuaded to ask for Barabbas the murder instead of Jesus our Savior to be released. Pilate found nothing that Jesus had done wrong to deserve death, but the crowd insisted. Every time he pleaded with them, Jesus stayed quiet and the crowded demanded their will more. We know the outcome, and we read the last several words in verse 25 and “Jesus was surrendered to their will.” Many think that the struggles Christians face are only against the world, the devil, sin and temptations. We have to realize that many of our struggles simply come from our will and desire to follow it and not God’s. When we make bad decisions, we fail to include God in our actions and our daily lives, it is the fact that we have willed Him out and are going to live according to our will and not His. It is humbling and disturbing to think that most of the issues we face in life could be avoided if we surrendered to God’s will and not allow ourselves to be persuaded by the crowd around us. Most would not deliberately choose sin or the flesh over Christ; however depending on where we are at, who we are with and what our will wants us to do, surrendering to Christ is not always that easy and simple. We have to surrender or give up our will to get in tune with His. In this life, there are things that can distract us, persuade us and awaken our emotions, but we must surrender to the instructions (Bible) and listen to our coach (God). Do you need to surrender your will for God’s today? Whose will are you listening to??? For once enjoy surrender and surrender to God. Ben
