12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS/8 DAYS OF CHANUKAH DOG & CAT RESCUE STORIES TO WARM YOUR HEART AT THE HOLIDAYS Duchess Comes Home for the Holidays Duchess, a 1-year old Boxer/Pit Bull mix, was about to lose her home and her people just before Christmas. The young couple with whom Duchess lived were leaving their home for financial reasons and, because of Duchess’ breed, were not allowed to bring her to their new apartment. The couple called our Animal Help & Adoption Network and asked for assistance in finding Duchess a new home within the next two weeks. However, before Duchess could be placed for adoption, she had to be spayed. An appointment was made at Indian Walk Veterinary Hospital, one of our veterinary partners, for Duchess to be tested for heartworm and spayed. CAS’ Boris & Natasha’s Fund arranged to cover the expenses. Later on the day that Duchess was taken to the veterinary clinic, we received a call from Jen, the practice manager at Indian Walk, that Duchess was absolutely adorable, well-mannered, and very sweet. The staff fell in love with her, and so did Jen. So, as it turns out, Duchess was never placed for adoption. We didn’t post her story, or ask someone to consider fostering her. Because, when Duchess left Indian Walk Veterinary Center, she went home with Jen. Duchess’ days are now spent with her new forever, loving family and the other 4-legged in the house, a German Shepherd named Zena, with whom she romps and body-slams (their form of play). Duchess is truly home for the holidays. Boris & Natasha’s Fund and the Animal Help and Adoption Network are funded entirely by private donations and small grants. Please consider making a tax-deductible holiday donation today at TheCrossingsAnimalSanctuary.org.
