#12, October 20. Halloween, 1978. Like A Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween would probably be higher on most peoples lists. I am using the same reasoning here, there is nothing wrong with it, there are just a few I like more. A very influential movie, Halloween tells a simple story of a kid who kills his babysitting sister, is locked up, and years later escapes to head back to his old neighborhood and kills babysitters. Nothing complicated about it yet it continues to provide jolts even after multiple viewings. The pacing, score, and excellent use of misdirection make the movie a classic. But my favorite aspect is Michaels ruthless killing style. Followed by numerous sequels and a terrible remake, this is the only one in the franchise worth watching. Though it isnt the first slasher movie it certainly is the most influential one. The movie launched Jamie Lee Curtis career and made John Carpenter a household name (though this wasnt his first movie. If you get a chance, check out Assault on Precinct 13). A great movie to pop in and revisit every few months, Halloween will live forever as a horror cinema landmark. youtube/watch?v=T5ke9IPTIJQ
