1290 » KTM PUTS UP ITS DUKES AT THE CREEK Two of KTM Australia’s popular Duke R models will be showcased in all their glory by a pair of highly skilled desperadoes at this weekend’s final round of the Australian Superbike Championship final at Eastern Creek. Queenslander Angus Reekie may have had his KTM 1290 Super Duke R’s amazing 12-race winning streak in the Naked Bike category come to a crashing halt last time round at Wakefield Park’s Round 5, but the eight-time Aussie champ is determined to finish the series the way he started it – and rode Round Two, Round Three etc. – i.e. Winning. Entering the Eastern Creek final with a championship deficit and a re-built racebike, Reekie is again thrilled to find his Super Duke R fitting a new circuit like a glove, and he looks forward to fighting all the way to the finish. Sharing the pit with Reekie at this round is “Lukey” Luke Follachio, who will not only perform his many stunts and tricks aboard his regular KTM 690 Duke R stunt bike, but also compete in the Naked Bike races aboard his 1290 super Duke R. Lukey Luke was once a 250cc production racer, but that was back in 2003, and the Melbourne stuntman is treating the race as a whole new beginning - and another excuse to fire up his 1290.. Angus Reekie - “It’s going to be an absolute scorcher this weekend. But we had a shakedown with the bike a couple of weeks ago and everything went really well, so were looking forward to it. Were really eager to get out there and have a good go at the last one. Im blown away with the fact that every track weve gone to, the bike has suited it and worked well. It just proves that the 1290 is really solid overall. Lukey Luke is here and he’s pretty nervous, but he’ll be right – he’s on the perfect bike for it as far as Im concerned. He’s a good rider and he’s got talent, so he’ll have no worries at all.” Lukey Luke – “The 1290 is just a weapon of a bike, and I wanted to do more with it. Thats the whole purpose of the Lukey Goes Racing project. Im very excited, a little nervous, its all a new experience for me! Ive spent a lot of time on the track, but it hasnt been racing – not for 11 years now anyway! But I’m pretty pumped! Ive got my KTM 1290 super Duke R set up pretty similarly to Angus bike, and we are pitting together - him and Alan have been a great help to me. Its a new experience riding on slicks, for me, and its actually quite fun! Ive also got my KTM 690 Duke, and Ill be going out at lunchtimes on Saturday and Sunday for the stunt displays. Maybe Ill change the tyre on the big 1290 and do some skids as well! Swann Insurance Australasian Superbike Championship Pro-Twins - Nakedbike standings after Round 5 of 6: 1.
