13-12-2014 GLIMPSES FROM BHAGAVATAM (108): Acknowledging the praise of the Sages, Lord Vishnu said: “Yes, you are right! The mis-behavior of my door-keepers and your curse were all as planned by Me. It is in their interest that they stay away from me for some time to know how favoured they are. Let them be born as powerful and destructive demons on Earth 3 times (in Sat-yuga as Hiranyaksha & Hiranyaka, in Threta Yuga as Ravana and Kumbakarna and in Dwapara Yuga as Sishupala and Dantavakra). Their atrocities will make humans and Gods to plead for my intervention. In response I will personally destroy them three times. This repeted contact with me will ensure their return to my abode and I will restore their position as before.” The 4 Kumaras applauded the Lord’s mercy. They went round the Lord 3 times and returned to their abode. Lord Vishnu then addressed the two attendants: “Now depart. But fear not, this is for your good. You will have to undergo temporary transfer to Earth to cleanse your mind of traces of egoism. As rakshashas, you will always remember me out of anger towards me and fear of death at my hands - you will always be with my thoughts – which will make you worthy of Vaikuntam again”. [TATWAS CONVEYED BY VYASA: 1. Imporance of Brahmins who spent their entire life studying and selflessly propagating the Vedic and Vedantic knowledge which makes the Lord famous. But for them the Lord’s glory would not have spread far and wide – hence the Lord is indebted to them. Therefore anyone who ill-treats them must be punished. 2. Even Gatekeeper job is important and there is sufficient scope to use intelligence and discretion. Gatekeepers/body-guards/Personal assistants of important personalities have a special responsibility of using their discretion. They should not assume the importance of their Lord and Master. A Poojari should not think that he is more important than the Lord! 3. Vyasa has stated: “A master is always held responsible (vicariously) for any deficiency in their service”. That is why Lord personally apologizes to the Kumars on behalf of his servants. 4. Everything is planned and executed by the Lord (Pure Knowledge) in this vast universe keeping in mind the long-term well-being of all the creatures. Even the smallest event is meticulously planned. So one should not look at any incident in isolation – everything is part of a grand plan which is beyond human comprehension. But He does everything only for good of mankind’. Now, let us go back to Diti, the poor young mother who is carrying the twin-devils – the incarnation of Jaya and Vijaya, the cursed gate-keepers of Lord Vishnu. After knowing from her husband the message of Brahma that Lord Vishnu had chosen her as an instrument to carry out his grand plan Diti was relieved. She soon delivered the twins. Now there was a new complication – how do you decide on the seniority of the twins?
