13 YEARS AGO: I remember that in Greenwich Village, the neighborhood that I performed in most, continued doing comedy shows over the next week or so, while the smell of smoke and soot was still pouring through the area. Heres the funny thing: Theres an assumption that comedians must have avoided the subject, but the reality was that the audience would give you NOTHING unless you talked about the attacks. The absolute best at being funny about that day was Colin Quinn. I remember one line... You guys have any friends that are always trying to insert themselves in the middle of the attacks, even though they werent involved in ANY way? Ive got one buddy whos always telling me, Ya know, if I was on the N Train that morning.... I wouldnt even be here right now.... Wow... How often do you take the N Train? I dont. But if I did that morning, I wouldnt be here Comedy. Its here to help those who get it.
