130 years ago today, an outbreak of strong tornadoes raked across eastern South Dakota, with seven known fatalities. One of those was a boy on a mule near a homestead in Foresburg, SD. A photograph taken on that day (probably lightly retouched, but authentic nonetheless) is widely cited as the first surviving photograph of a tornado (it is actually the second -- one taken in Kansas in April 1884 takes the prize). And Laura and Almanzo saw it!
