1340 #GSR Are you scared of life??do you feel like a loser for your age??are you unable to decide between your passion and profession?? I understand where youre at. Cause I was there just a few months ago. Then I watched Groundhog Day, read a book called Theres Nothing Wrong with You by Cheri Huber, developed a new perspective on my life. Which I can try sharing with you. I will be turning 28 pretty soon as well in fact and dont think I am an old hag who will die with seven cats. In fact, for the first time in my life, I am looking forward to see what I can make of myself and how well I can live this life. The key is to understand that modern society, from a very young age, indoctrinates self-hatred within us to make us toe the line, and fit within it. If I dont get married by 28, theres something wrong with me., I havent bought a house yet, which means I am a failure. When you dont have a frame of reference other than the one in which you have grown up, it becomes difficult to stop comparing yourself to others, or even realise that youre judging yourself by others criteria. Society insists on making you want things, that in reality, you dont even want. For instance, all those giant posters of people eating Pizzas and looking absolutely thrilled with themselves, its a nice marketing gimmick to cater to your mammalian brain, your primitive brain. Instant gratification, is the minor vice of this part of our brain structure. Being addicted to video games is a smaller level. Being caught in societys trap: earning a six figure salary, being married, spawning two kids, buying a flat, a nice swanky car etc, is the bigger level. Self hates goal is simple. Keep you in check. If you step out, it will whip you back (with the same voices that once shouted at you as a child for getting less marks on a test, or for muddying up the new sofa at home). Think of it, who feeds you these notions as a child? That X is wrong, and Y is right? Parents, media, society. Without these voices shouting at you, youre actually pretty good! Maybe, even on the path to enjoying yourself and actually experiencing life as a child. Just experiencing the joy of being. Theres no one wrong, no one right. In fact, if someone tells you, X is the only way of living or Y cannot be achieved, its their personal projection, their personal belief. Its a way of pacifying themselves, to fit the WORLD into their limited view, than actually opening themselves up to appreciate the world and themselves, flaws and all. When you stop analysing the past, all forms of upset disappears. When you stop living in the future, anxiety disappears. Being mindful and being in the present, is the only way you can create a new future too. If buying a house is important to you, personally, then let that be a personal, vague goal, but not the be all and end all of your existence. Once you get rid of the voices in your head reprimanding you for not being good enough, and start talking to yourself compassionately, youll stop looking at what the society wants from you, and youll feel a nice little empty space within you. Thats your REAL, true self. And thats not from emptiness, but finally a sense of freedom. Youll also start treating people around you compassionately. youll lose all sense of self pity, self hatred, victimisation. In fact, theres nothing wrong with you. :)
