Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Reuben Abati. | credits: thewillnigeria The Presidency on Sunday said there was no truth in media reports (The PUNCH not included) that President Goodluck Jonathan was flown to Germany on Friday for medical attention. Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, said this in a telephone interview with our correspondent from Germany, where the President had been since Friday on a “private visit.” Abati had last Thursday issued a three-paragraph statement, indicating that Jonathan, with a few aides, was travelling to Germany on a private visit and should be expected back this week. Media reports however had it that the President had been taken to a German hospital after he suddenly fallen ill. According to the reports, an earlier planned dinner for members of the just-concluded 2014 National Conference on Thursday had to be cancelled because of the sudden illness of the President. But Abati told our correspondent on the telephone that the reports were “the figments of the writers’ imagination.” He said the President had the right to embark on private visits and that he was not only hale and hearty but also treating files in his hotel room. The presidential spokesman said he sent out a statement, a video and audio on Saturday showing Jonathan as speaking on the telephone with members of the national under-20 women’s football team, the Falconets, asking them to go all out for victory against their German counterparts in Sunday’s final of the 2014 FIFA under-20 Women’s World Cup in Canada. Abati said, “Before leaving Nigeria, I issued a statement that the President will be embarking on a private visit to Germany with a few of his aides. “On Saturday, I sent out a statement that the President spoke with the Falconets on the telephone. I also sent out the video and audio of his conversation with the players where he promised to stay awake and watch the final match. “The NTA and some other broadcasting stations aired the video and audio. “There are also photographs out there showing the President when he was leaving Nigeria and when he was arriving Germany. “The President is hale and hearty. In fact, he is treating files in his hotel room. “Are these not enough proofs that Mr. President is not sick as they want Nigerians to believe? “It is important to note that the publisher of the newspaper that has been writing this false report is a chieftain of an opposition party who also have an ambition to be President.” Meanwhile, our correspondent learnt that Jonathan would be returning to Nigeria on Monday (today). Abati had in his Thursday statement indicated that the President would be back in the country early this week. Jonathan had in December last year embarked on a similar private visit to Germany though many also said then that the President had gone in search for treatment for ill health. Jonathan’s wife, Patience, had in 2012 admitted in a German hospital for an undisclosed ailment. She left Nigeria unannounced in August that year and spent about seven weeks abroad. Before the woman announced to the nation that she almost died in Germany, her media aides had denied that she suffered ill health. Copyright PUNCH. All rights reserved. If you claim president Jonathan was not flown for treatment then it means he was flown to Germany to dance #skelewu since Boko Haram has not given him the opportunity to dance #sekem for awhile now ORACLE i wish him quick recovery to be able to bring back our boys and girls Jo I wish him safe journey to visit those innocent people Boko Haram killed. Onyema Even yaradua too was not sick b4 he died.mthewww, they will hide everything for those who pays their bills.anyway God dey oh.maybe nah only him waka go germany.mthewww yeye dey smell. Prince Kole Adedeji {PKA} UAE Lol… I dey laugh oooo Tino Never believe any rumour until it is officially denied. KayodeA wise crack..you r the man..I hail your line.. Efe1 Well I hope they screened him for Ebola when he got there. Nonsense. So how are we sure he is not lying about all the things he said he has achieved for the country. For sure we know he is lying about his links with boko haram, electricity, corruption, etc. waste of time. Prince Kole Adedeji {PKA} UAE This is not the first time of such, President Musa Yar’adua was badly sick and dieing, what we were hearing was he is busy climbing Mount Everest, until dead had the final say. Well, I wish Ebola sorry Ebora Ooohhhhh I mean Ebele Jonathan Goodluck, God will take away all the leaders that are not making Nigeria the best for Nigerians. mac being sick is sign that we are mortals.this is not news at all marley Why must they all go abroad for health treatment? Why can’t they set up the local hospitals to meet up with the global standard? Why are there no reforms in the health sector? It appears to be more deliberate than a mere oversight. TKBaba I wonder ooo…Imagine PDP in government for almost 15 years….and President Johnatan in power for almost 6 years…. Truthisbitter Doctors are on strike and 16,000 Resident doctors have been sacked by his govt, then who takes care of him?Anyway, d spokesperson just told us he is hale and hearty probably he is just out there on vacation. KayodeA vacation and working on files!!! Reuben Abati we hail thee.. Jboy Nigerians are used to the lies of Abati and his likes. They denied the medical issues of patience Jonathan until she came to tell the world with her own mouth that she died and resurrected in Germany hospitals. Yar A’dua’s illness was hidden from us forever until he died. I wonder if those media aids cherish their integrity, why should anybody take an appointment who’s role is to be a professional liar. PolyGon2013 GEJ no went with his aides o. Na him alone go waka go Germany. Chei, there is God o. If he is sick for real, I wish him a speedy recovery. By flying abroad, it showcase the rot in our healthcare system. Klem Chei, there is God ooo! Omooba Adekunle Orafidiya Has Goodluck Ebola Jonathan contracted Ebola? stena12 … na waa-oo for Nigerians. so we must comment for every thing. Even if he is sick, is that a crime? Being the president of this nation alone is enough burden for someone to be sick. Any of us can be sick at any time. Let’s discuss issues of common interest Thanks. Biodun Uhh, Nigeria health sector is in shamble, Nigerian should wake up . PDP has little or no interests of Nigerian at heart, except their looting and what ever they will get out from the governance. If German government has not developed their health services will GEJ and family be able to visit their hospital? Nigerian government should please develop the health service for the betterment of Nigerian. Typhoid is killing many Nigerian every day, this is a simple thing to do and cost a few naira to treat the water at source. This is almost killed me last time i visited Nigeria with their pure water things. Nigeria needs to moves forward without PDP at Federal level. If head sick, then the whole body is sick. meaning GEJ is sick and hospitalized in German hospital, then Nigerian is sick. Have you ever heard that Obama is in UK hospital or Saudi hospital for treatment? Never. its only in Nigeria, you will hear that a governor A and governor B spent months in foreign hospital, Madam There is god oooooo and her husband in German hospital using our commonwealth money that supposed to be used for all the masses on their private treatment. Now, what is federal government doing about the Ebola? Nothing except making noises everywhere without substance. Miracle will happen in Nigeria one day, its getting worse . Oh Lord, please father visit Nigeria asap., the burden is too much on your children . jo The oat he took before getting into office is what is making him sick. He took an oat of one term and he is not keeping to it. That why he is sick Klem You mean oatmeal or oath? jo When will they stop being selfish and inconsiderate like mandela canadacom.blogspot.ca/ canadacom “he suddenly fallen ill” aah! Punch. I am not so much as concerned about the lies of these so called media spokesperson, He lost his reputation and you can’t trust Nigerian politician, they seems to hide things from the people who they claimed elected them. (They were actually forced on us all) They lie about everything, What is the use? Is Germany his country? why do they pride themselves in globetrotting? These guys should be ashamed. why is Germany not coming to Nigeria for whatever reason? The Nigerian team are playing in Montreal, he went to Germany and Abati say he released a Video to who? who cares about a President who has done nothing in his four years save running from pillar to post. If he has spent all the Billions on building a standardized Medical Facilities in his own country, Do we have to border about your lies and defense? Truth is Nigerian who are satisfied with this rottenness called leaders should keep enjoying their choice Nigerians are not angry enough. to think that these men who are supposed servant live like Lords “Without a shred of doubt, patronage and indulgence have been the hallmark of political life since men began wielding power. To check the abuse of power, reasonable people are wont to think that “right is might”. Perhaps so. In advanced democracies, where core ethics have their roots in strong Judeo-Christian traditions, man is believed to be inherently noble in pursuit of the greater good. In Nigeria, democracy is an albatross. Wrong is might and odd is right and it is always defended as right especially when a meal ticket goes with it. Nigerians are not particularly squeamish if rulers, politicians, chiefs and other symbols of authority asserts control over those from whom their wealth is derived. Does that sound like intelligent behaviour? No! Such behaviour belongs to level one stupidity. In Nigeria, the compulsory prerequisites for climbing the ladder are: a total lack of conviction, a spineless personality, demonstrable and higher than normal predisposition to avarice, dependable ability for stealing, for conversion and a generally destructive acumen. To be a leader, you must have unusual appetite for power, money, and inordinate ability to dismiss those stupid enough to vote for you. On the other hand, the “others”, yes others, go about their daily lives, they go to church for prayers against their shrinking budgets, dwindling purchasing power and increasing bills. They blame demons and evil spirits for lack of electricity, for bad public schools and institutions and for crumbling infrastructure. They drink anointing oil when afflicted, they cast and bind the spirit of epidemics and diseases by sprinkling salts in their abode, they drink brine at odd hours to placate the malevolent spirits like Ebola, they go for special anointing so they can work like a rat and eat like an elephant. What kind of people petitions God to help them build roads and equip their hospitals? What kind of nation closes its factories while “pastorpreneurs” build the largest Church auditoriums in the world? What kind of people welcome politicians bringing rice, kerosine and T-shirts in exchange for their votes? Stupid people? Yes! You are right!” Bámidélé Adémólá-Olátéjú Guguru LOL! You have said it all. Well stated. May the spirit of truth continue to guide you in all your endeavors. Thanks for the honest remarks. Klem A well-stated fact…Well done, bro Godsog On a private visit, at the same time, in his hotel room treating files. It just doesn’t add up. Couldn’t the files be treated here in Nigeria that it had to be in a hotel room in Germany, just curious though. All the best to Nigerians and I hope one day soon, we will have reasons to be proud of our Leaders when they starts putting Nigerians first and be committed to their oath of office. Guguru The President of lies, deceit, and obfuscations who has told Nigerians to be patient with him while he steals from Nigerians, enshrines corruption, and heightens their collective hopes recklessly, is the same one trying to hide the fact that he depends on foreign hospitals for his healthcare. He does not want to take responsibility for the fact that he has not provided healthcare to the same Nigerians whose holes he has dashed and crushed in his programs of abject poverty and despondency. What a shame that Nigerians who suffer endlessly are willing to accept this fraud as their president—a fraud that admitted in 2011 that he will not seek re-election in 2015, and a fraud who does not admit that his real name is Ebelemi Azikwe and not Ebelechukwu Azikiwe as he claims. BOSSO Yaradua people lied to their teeth for years until reality stopped them. Whether Jonathan.is.sick or not, truth will come.out. you cant cover smoke with your fingers Omotolaaraujo Whatever! Happy landings! GbemigaO I think when the President of a sovereign country go to another country to treat files while on a private visit, it becomes more difficult to justify.
