15 children found in condemned home in Springfield SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Department of Children and Families officials found multiple children at a house on Marion Street in Springfield that had been labeled condemned a week ago. According to Jim Leydon of the Springfield mayor’s office, the house at 197 Marion Street failed inspection and a condemnation notice was issued. The house had unsanitary conditions, broken or missing screens, rotted and/or loose floor boards and exposed wires. Leydon said when the condemnation notice was order fifteen children were living at the house; twelve of the children were living at the house temporarily and had been relocated from 515 Union Street. All the children were order to be removed from the house including three children who had been living there. Inspectors returned Friday to check on the three children and make sure that all the children had been moved. What inspectors found instead was an additional fifteen children living at the house. The fifteen children were not the same ones from before but children that had been dropped off at the Marion Street house. Leydon said the house was being used as a day care service to the children who appeared to be mostly toddlers. Jewish Family Services was immediately called for assistance by DCF for interpretation services.
