16/11/13 Walking tour of the French Quarter reveals a lot more - TopicsExpress

16/11/13 Walking tour of the French Quarter reveals a lot more than one would expect, for example . . . a lot of the properties have a very small, often non-descript frontage but once you get through the carriage-way (front opening), a whole different world lies beyond. Private courtyards, often extended buildings - likely to have been old slave quarters/stables, etc. The walking tour of the Garden District was different, but still interesting. The Garden District was what was called the American Quarter. The Creoles and the Americans remained at loggerheads for a long time, barely tolerating each other. When they called it the American Qtr, they were actually taking the piss out of the French Qtr. Note: Both the French Quarter and the Garden District remained high and dry after Hurricane Katrina. Photos show several celebrity homes, one is John Goodmans and another would be Sandra Bullocks. Ill ID each home on the pics. Tonight we dined at Muriels, delightful - Mark said the BEST bayoubaise hes ever had, loads of flavour and plenty of seafood. I had duck confit with white bean cassoulet, very tasty but couldnt finish, very filling! After dinner we cruised down Bourbon Street, really this is worth visiting New Orleans for - the rest is just a huge bonus! For yall familiar with Fantasy Fest in Key West, this comes really close . . . some bare boobs, Mardi Gras beads, plenty of live music and entertainment, great people-watching venue! And to think, it must be like this most weekends!
