16 year old arrested for “shoplifting” In a case of the hunter becoming the hunted, a Walvis Bay mother who went to the police to lodge a complaint against Mr Price Walvis Bay ended with the gun turned against her when the police decided to arrest her 16 year old son for theft. The boy’s mother whom we cannot name because the boy is a minor said yesterday her son went to Mr Price to buy T- shirts but on his way out security stopped him and accused him of stealing the jacket he was wearing. The mother told namib times that she had bought the jacket cash, three weeks ago from Mr Price and when the boy was accused of stealing the jacket, the item was dirty from being worn over the three weeks. Mr Price employees yesterday called Stallion Security and not the police when the guard at the door accused the boy of theft. The boy was later released and went home. Mr Price had earlier demanded a receipt from the woman as proof that the jacket was bought three weeks ago but the mother told them that she had thrown it away since the items were bought for cash. Unhappy with the accusation of theft leveled against her son, the woman today, went to the police to report the unfair treatment and Mr Price staff was called to give their side of the story and the police decided to press theft charges against the boy. Mr Price maintains that the boy stole the jacket and dirtied it in the fitting room before the boy removed the price tag which security claim was found on the shop floor. The distraught woman said she had bought the jacket and two pairs of pants on April 1after her son was chosen to be in the youth national soccer team. The mother demanded Mr Price to check through that day’s purchases for proof of purchase but she told namib times that they refused to so in the absence of a receipt. If the shop had cameras, it would have helped to prove the purchase.
