17/03/2014 Jakes Daily Struggle Jake didnt have a great day today. He has spent most of it in bed sleeping. Even turning down an outing to Mylestom for a frozen drink (he is clearly unwell). The doctor did a home visit. He has has to have a blood tests for diabeties, ross river fever, all the other fevers & a bunch of other tests. He needs to also do a urine test which includes fasting. The doctor wants to cover all bases, he could have another urinary tract infection and because of some of the medications Jake is on, he wants to check his kidneys as they may be slowly deteriorating his kidneys. Liz will take Jake to the clinic in Bellingen where Suzelle (who knows the family well) will take his bloods. Suzelle is great with Jake. Very patient. Jake is actually very good with needles. He likes to play tricks on the clinic nurse. As soon as they start sticking in the needle, he yells ouch, that hurts then starts laughing. Meanwhile the poor nurse turns themselves inside out. The difficulties with all these tests are that he has to wait as there are other people in front of him (as you can imagine, he is not so patient at the best of times) or his veins can collapse, but the main issue will be getting a urine specimen as he must go to the test without his medication or food. Editors note: No meds or food mean Jake is unfortunately a ticking time bomb. Hopefully all goes well. The cheeky Jake coming out during the blood tests with the needles melts my heart. This is the Jake we rarely see & the Jake we knew prior the cowardly punch inflicted on him that fateful day in January 2010.
