17 Sept. 2013 “Dzień Sybiraka” - we observe the 74th anniversary of the Soviet invasion of Poland. In memory of this tragic day, commemoration ceremonies are being observed all over Poland today. Kresy-Siberia joins in these commemorations by remembering the victims of this invasion and the subsequent occupation of the Eastern Borderlands. The repercussions of those events are felt to this day. Were it not for the aggressive actions of the Soviets, our families would not be living in places far removed from our homeland; the brutal deportations, the Katyn massacres, would not have happened. The fates of the Siberian deportees was varied. Some of them managed to escape the USSR by joining the Polish Army that was formed there, and were then evacuated to the Middle East. They went on to fight with great distinction in the Italian Campaign. The civilians that were evacuated with the Army ended up in various refugee settlements in far off places like Iran, India, Africa, New Zealand and Mexico. Many of them never returned to Poland. Regardless of where they are living today, they will all be remembering the tragic events of this day. In keeping with this anniversary, we invite you to visit the newest Exhibition Rooms of the Virtual Museum: one dedicated to the wartime exploits of the Polish Second Corps (kresy-siberia.org/2-corps/?lang=pl), and the other telling the story of the refugee settlement in Mexico (kresy-siberia.org/mexico/?lang=pl). Their odyssey began with the invasion by the Soviets …. (please note that the Exhibition Rooms are currently only available in Polish). ********************************************* W dniu 17 wrzesnia 2013 r. będziemy obchodzić 74 rocznicę inwazji sowieckiej na Polskę, Dzień Sybiraka. Uroczystosci organizowane tego dnia w całej Polsce przypominają o tym tragicznym dniu. My także dołączamy się do tych, którzy wspominać będą ofiary tej inwazji i późniejszej okrutnej w skutkach okupacji Kresów Wschodnich. Skutki tej inwazji odczuwamy do dzis - rodziny Kresowiaków, rodziny katyńskie, Sybiracy może nadal mieszkałyby na Kresach i nie doswiadczyły tragicznych zbrodni i tułaczki z dala od rodzinnego domu gdyby nie agresja wschodniego sąsiada. Różne były koleje losu szeregu sowieckich ofiar. Część z nich jako "żołnierze tułacze" czy polscy uchodźcy zdołali 3 lata po inwazji sowieckiej wydostać się wraz z Armią Andersa z "imperium zła". Pierwsi walczyli potem dzielnie za wolnosć ojczyzny w kampanii włoskiej. Osoby cywilne tułały się po swiecie - żyły w osiedlach w Iranie, Indiach, Afryce, Nowej Zelandii czy Meksyku. Wielu sposród nich nie wróciło już do Polski. Oni także 17 wrzesnia będą wspominać tamte tragiczne dni niezależnie gdzie obecnie mieszkają na swiecie.
