17 years ago today. She became a statistic on September 25, 1996. The victim of a violent crime, she had been beaten, raped, and strangled; her bruised and battered body was discovered in a smoke-filled apartment. The fire had been set, her body burned, in an effort to destroy evidence that might lead to the conviction of her killer. With her death, her family began a torturous journey into a hellish nightmare, receiving a baptism by fire into the workings of the judicial system. The pain felt by this family, although lessened somewhat over the years, has not gone; it is never-ending. We greet each day with the hope this will be the day she receives Justice. 17 YEARS AGO TODAY!
