1933 - British Blues pioneer John Mayall is born. 1951 - Boston’s ‘other guitarist’ (Tom Scholz being the famous one), Barry Goudreau, is born. 1958 - Bassist Michael Dempsey (The Cure) has a birthday. 1962- The Beatles record their first U.K. #1 (on some charts it only reaches #2), Please Please Me at Abbey Road Studios in London. 1969 - John Lennon is convicted of cannabis possession in England. He claims he no longer uses the drug and is fined. The conviction plays a large role in his later attempts to win U.S. residency status. The drug bust makes him an undesirable even though his political beliefs/activities are the real issue. 1975- An edited version (cutting more than a minute from the original) of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” drops in the U.K. 1977 - Kansas goes platinum with “Point Of No Return.” The album contains one of their best songs “Carry On Wayward Son.” 1978 - Neil Young’s “Comes A Time” goes gold. 1986 - The Garden State rules! Bon Jovi’s hit “You Give Love A Bad Name” tops the U.S. pop chart. It’s their first million seller. Meanwhile, another Jersey native scores big. Bruce Springsteen’s “Live 1975-1985” enters the U.S. Album Chart at #1. Can’t do any better than that.
