1947-1950 & 1951-1954 GMC Hood Birds The hood ornament was the centerpiece of vehicles for three decades. Evolving from radiator caps, then to motometers, and finally into the hood ornament which was the icing on the radiator cap, this feature continues in use to today on many vehicles. GMC was no exception and while you can read about the variety used on GMCs on my main oldgmctrucks website, heres Im showing the factory catalog cut sheet and associated photo of each of this era hood ornament applied. Very hard to find and highly sought after, there are a few tricks that can enhance your searching if youre looking for the 47/50 style; its identical to the 47 OIdsmobile hood ornament except it has clear wings which you can buy reproduction today. The 51/54 birds are much harder to find and were briefly reproduced about 8 years ago, but that entire batch sold out quickly and now youre relegated to finding them on a hood in a junkyard if youre lucky.
