1970s-1990s: UNICEF worked with the Ministry of Health to help children in Malaysia survive beyond their fifth birthday. Malaysia capitalised on UNICEF’s child survival revolution strategies and grants for innovations to manage childhood diseases, promote breastfeeding and child nutrition, deliver immunisation and teach parents about oral rehydration therapy which is the simplest, most effective way to stop deaths caused by diarrhoea. As a result of these early investments in child health, Malaysia can today boast a reduction of child deaths comparable to many industrialised countries.
