1977 Jesus of Nazareth came out as a mini series and the ratings on it skyrocketed like no other. Every Easter they used to play it on multiple channels and even then the ratings would surpass a lot of other shows. Then in 2004 Mel-Gibson directed the Passion of the Christ which was depicted as the most accurate re-enactment of the Crucifixion of Jesus ever. Leaving many in tears and given a more clear understanding of what went on during a Crucifixion and what Jesus went through. The box office went NUTS and was one of the highest grossing movies of all time! So much so that they re-released it a few months after taking it out of theaters and pulled similar numbers as to the original release date and Hollywood didnt count it giving Avatar the record for the highest grossed film of all time... (Im sure we all know why) After Passion it sparked so much interest in Hollywood directors to do more depictions of the stories in the Bible. They released a Bible series on TV which scored really high ratings and seen by over 100 Million people!! Next month the story of Noah will be released starring Russel Crowe... However this Friday (Feb 28th) 20th Century Fox and the theaters all over the world will be releasing the first full length movie of the entire story of Jesus since the 1977 version called Son of God and even without advertising as much as Noah its supposed to do Passion of the Christ type of numbers!! I cant tell you how excited I am to go see this. I love Epic films as it is... But I also love seeing these stories like Noah and Jesus being depicted and painted on the big screen!! For many reasons... Cuz these days when movies like that are being done they even tie in the culture of the people and the times. I think it just paints a wonderful picture to those who may not understand. Whether you go see it for spiritual reasons or see it for just entertainment, definitely take someone with you.
