1984 Harley Davidson Electra-glide Special Edition RARE FLHX RARE!! 1984 Harley Davidson Electra-glide Special Edition FLHX, with the 1340 Shovel head.. Posted as rare because Ive had people argue that a 1984 FLH-X does not exist. One person in particular thinks that his FL what ever is the same thing. I was was very blessed that this bike just sort of just fell into my hands and I cherish it very much. Ive been unable to find another as complete as her AND with all the bells and whistles... fact is, there are some specific items that Ive not been able to find anywhere (I am purposely not posting pics certain views / items). All research Ive done, shows there were only 4 67 of these made (one reference to 496). If anyone has definitive proof one way or the other I would LOVE to see it and obtain a copy. The Mistress is #454, putting it pretty close to the last one of its kind made. All VIN searches and many parts sites have the FLHX listed. I bought this in June of 2011 with only 22K miles, apparently the original owner rode it for a while then parked it in his living room for a decade and a half. The bike is in Beautiful condition with all of the original equipment - that is to say that I am not aware of anything missing. As can be seen in the pictures, most of the tour package was removed as I mostly ride short distances to work and such - besides, it looks really cool parked next to all of the Newer bikes. I now live in New Mexico and will be able to ride every day as I have since I first purchased her. The only real work Ive done is replacing most plastic and rubber parts - such as the grips, electrical components with plastic, and some cables - Toad, it is due to dry rot in the South Western sun.... Google Dry Rot or Effects of the sun over a long period of time. My wife gave her the name Mistress , I suppose that is self explanatory. How ever, my Mistress has started the tradition of giving every passenger she likes - a kiss... they all look the same, a small round area on the lower leg that puffs up and leaves a nice dark tanned spot. There is NO WAY I will ever sell her! I would rather ride a bike with out all the stuff that can break - like computers and digital what ever stuff. I like the idea that if I was to get a short I could put some bubble gum on it and still ride home. Imagine one of todays bikes and all the stuff that will need replacing in 26 years - oh the cost - YIKES. I hope this information helps someone, and if YOU have a bike such as this, I would hope to see it!!!! Please post a link....... Ride well, ride safe. MAY 22, 2012 !!!! UPDATE -- PRODUCTION NUMBERS !!!!!! I have found some interesting information at two different sites: HD tidbits from 1984: flyingsnail/Sprung/HD-tidbits/HDtidbitsfrom84.html FLHX Last Edition Shovel-head Electra Glide offered in Black or White, with Gold stripes and Red pin-striping, with wire wheels and full touring equipment first year FLHX - S,4 speed, (1,258) Electra Glide Special Edition At: shovelhead.us/ the following is found. Production Totals Model FLHX:791 Model FLHX: 467 There seems to be a great consensus that there were more “white” bikes produced than the Black. So when I add up the numbers, I suspect there were a total of 791 in white and 467 in black giving a grand total of 1,258. I will not step out on a limb and present this as fact…. Just that these two sites appear very credible. Toad, I was unable to find any model produced in 1984 that equated to 920. I am wondering about the authenticity of your letter. Read my post below. 29 June 2012 Update: Stator replacement is a major over-haul Soon after purchasing my Mistress a year ago, it began having a charging issue and blowing the regulator. Due to time and $$ I was not able to address the problem until recently. I ended up needing to replace the Stator and while I was at it, just about everything else associated with making such a repair. I discovered that the previous owner had cut a wire (not shown on modern wiring diagrams of the Clymer manual) to prevent the Headlight from coming on when the ignition switch is in position 3. This one little pigtail wire led to the complete failure of the charging system. The wire was an easy fix, but was the cause of a very expensive and time consuming rebuild of the rest of the system. The flip side is that I also up-dated and upgraded a bunch of things, such as rebuilding the carburetor, re-blacked the motor, and a whole plethora of little things. Now she rides like new. Having never owned a bike before now, I learned a lot! Stator repair on this model is one of the most difficult processes. If you have any questions, please ask, I took lots of pictures to include a necessary “clutch puller” that I had to build for about 15 bucks. ---- Ride well, ride Safe. “Patriot Guard Riders”. Have you heard of the PGR? It is an organization of persons that show support to our troops in many aspects. Of most significance, the PGR provide escorting for Veteran funeral processions, deploying troops, and troops coming home. I am a proud member of the PGR as I am a fellow veteran. Anyone may join for free. Though it is preferred that a member rides in a procession on a bike with a 3 X 5 American Flag, there are others who are only able to follow along in a truck or car with a flag attached to the window. It is the “Spirit” of show respect and appreciation to our troops and veterans who have put their lives on the line to give idiots the freedom to be stupid and the rest of us to live free. Please visit the web site for the Patriot Guard and show your support for our troops. Just a little more history? Check out the pic of an original #1 patch I recently purchased. Please help me find FLHX specific items. --- Thank you.
