# 2 - The Cross And Political Parties 2015-01-18 AM.mp4 “God & Politics” - January 2015 Series: # 2 - The Cross & Political Parties 01/18/2015 AM Mark 12:13-17 We’ve all heard the call to take America back & though I understand the heartache of seeing a nation that I love turn away from God, a political solution is not going to fix the problem. But what are we to do? If it makes you feel any better, we’re not the first generation of Christians to not know what relationship we should have with politics. The background of our passage was there was a big division among the Jews on to what degree they should try to get along with Rome. And political parties developed in Judea with one group wanting to rebel & another group wanting to be progressive & get along. And they didn’t ask Jesus the question because they didn’t have an opinion, but because they wanted to get Jesus to take a political position. We’ll get back to that in a moment. We’re not even the first generation to face this in America. In 1925, the famous Scopes trial in Tennessee put Creation against evolution in court, to insist that Creation be taught in its schools. And even though the creation view won, it was overturned on a technicality. This so frustrated Bible believing churches that they withdrew from the public arena & decided to stay out of politics & start their own schools & colleges. Of course by doing so, they gave the entire public education system in America to those who believed in evolution.
