2 Kings 6 New International Version (NIV) An Axhead Floats 6 The company of the prophets said to Elisha, “Look, the place where we meet with you is too small for us. 2 Let us go to the Jordan, where each of us can get a pole; and let us build a place there for us to meet.” And he said, “Go.” 3 Then one of them said, “Won’t you please come with your servants?” “I will,” Elisha replied. 4 And he went with them. They went to the Jordan and began to cut down trees. 5 As one of them was cutting down a tree, the iron axhead fell into the water. “Oh no, my lord!” he cried out. “It was borrowed!” 6 The man of God asked, “Where did it fall?” When he showed him the place, Elisha cut a stick and threw it there, and made the iron float. 7 “Lift it out,” he said. Then the man reached out his hand and took it. We seek God for large scale needs. We plead for salvation for our friends and family. We seek Him for financial needs, that sometimes seem impossible to meet. We cry out for healing, when someone is gravely ill. Then we go about our day to day life and tend to small matters on our own. If we were with the company of prophets, how would we have dealt with the situation? We probably would have taken up a collection to replace the axhead. God cares about every detail of your life, both great and small. As your Heavenly Father, it pleases Him when you trust Him and ask for His help and advice in every area of your life. We repainted our bathroom, several years ago. I had to take down some shutters that were on the window. When we were done painting, I went to reinstall them. I found that I had lost the decorative brass screws that attached the hinges to the window frame. I might have been able to find similar screws at the hardware store. I chose to ask God what to do. The thought entered my mind, that I should look in the box on my workbench, which contains an assortment of screws, nuts, and bolts. In the box, I found the exact number, that I needed, of identical brass screws. You might say that such things show that I am simple minded. Hopefully you are right. “And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 18:2-4 Keep your relationship with God simple. Believe and trust Him in all things.
