2 NEPHI, CHAPTER THIRTY-THREE. (Nephi’s Farewell.) Forty years have tumbled past, with rumors, work, and war. I delegate all that I can, but now can do no more. These knotted hands no longer answer to my least command; My breath lies heavy on my chest, my feet are full of sand. But still the Lord speaks through me, though I’m frail and fading fast – I’m not a mighty writer, but the plates shall always last. It grieves me so to see some of my children start to stray; The dew upon my pillow comes from tears when oft I pray. The words I write in weakness are not written down in vain; The Lord will help my people through their sorrow and their pain. They know of Jesus Christ, they know He only has the power To snatch them from the devil’s claws at the final hour. The plates, the plates, heed well the plates – do not ignore their warning! They are plain as I am plain; they’ll keep you from great mourning. My bowels are full of charity for Gentile and for Jew – Where e’er thou art, what e’er thou be, may God be in thy view. Believe in Christ and these words shall a cure for sorrow be; Ignore them and you shall regret it for eternity; For at the bar of God shall all who have these words perused Be seen by me, and if they’ve failed, by God they are refused.
