I’m from Chicago, where countless voters were registered in graveyards and aided in the election of John F. Kennedy in 1960 thanks to Richard J. Daley’s political machine. He managed to put a lot of zombies in polling places — even more than were in political office at the time. And also this one: ID is not valid if its expired. And then consider this logic: Critics contend that such laws are unnecessary because impersonation fraud at the polling place simply does not exist. It is true that direct evidence of such fraud is hard to come by, but this is for a simple reason: Election officials cannot discover an impersonation if they are denied the very tool needed to detect it-an identification requirement. The Seventh Circuit noted the extreme difficulty of apprehending a voter impersonator unless the impersonator and the voter being impersonated (if living) arrive at the polls at the same time, which is a very unlikely occurrence. And then consider this LOGIC: The problem with this easy assurance - Voter Fraud is rare - is that we have no clear way to know how prevalent voter fraud is. Why? By definition, those who perpetrate it seek to go undetected, and it is a circular argument to say that there is no need for better law enforcement because our current lax enforcement hasn’t caught many violators.
