#2... While they were booking us, I was fortunate enough to get a really great officer. We talked about the fact that he joined the force because his brother was a gang member, and he wanted to help keep kids out of gangs. He even gave me the breakdown of officer rankings, what the stripes on their uniform denote, etc. In the meantime however, every now and then, hed have an officer come up to him and say under his breath, Yo. Can I just stand here and pretend like Im working? I really dont wanna be doing this right now... I also overheard another officer say, Man. Why didnt we just light them up with rubber bullets?!? Then of course, there were those that were simply trying to intimidate their prisoners by saying, Oh yea. Youll be here til Monday, easy! Youre not going anywhere. Plus, try getting a job now, when you have to check the box that says youve been arrested before! hahaha During the processing, I asked one officer what made him want to join the force, and he simply responded coldly, I used to be in the army...and I love guns. Uh..what??? If you go out and protest, please keep in mind that most of these individuals are not at fault. Many of theme are incredible men and women who have great intentions. Its the larger structural and systematic issues that we should be concerned with. That being said, some of these guys ARE the problem, and need to be trained/educated a bit better...
