2 hurt in gunfire tiggered by brawl: IMPHAL, Oct 26: At least two persons were injured in a firing incident that began from a brawl at a dice board game (lagao) site while one gunman was badly beaten up by a mob. The incident happened last night around 8 at Kakwa Keithel a place not far away from Singjamei PS in Imphal West district. Reports culled from the spot said that three persons coming in a Honda Civic car opened a new dice game board at Kakwa Keithel Maning where there were already three/four such boards. A verbal duel ensued between the gamblers and the new comers. Huidrom Kanta (25) s/o Shanti of Kakwa Huidrom Leikai received a bullet injury at the right foot when one of the three new comers, who was armed with a small weapon, opened a round of gunfire. The injured man was rushed immediately to RIMS hospital for treatment. The trio fled from the place when a mob, which had been formed after the firing, targeted them. The mob however dismantled the car used by them. Just then, another armed man who came there shouted at the mob asking why they were turning their angst against the car. Another person, Huidrom Trilokchand (37) s/o (L) Bijoy of Kakwa Huidrom Leikai received bullet injury at the left calf when the armed man opened another round of gunfire. The injured man was hospitalised at RIMS. The gunman has been admitted to Shija Hospital after the angry mob thrashed him soundly. The situation was put under control after personnel of Singjamei PS rushed to the spot. Besides, police did not divulge anything in connection with the incident. In yet another incident, police resorted to blank firing when people stoned Patsoi PS in a dice board game related incident. Seven gamblers from Awang Khunou under Patsoi PS were taken into custody by the police yesterday around 8 pm. Locals of Awang Khunou pelted stones at the PS demanding their release.
