20 days people! 20 days from Facebook being flooded with the biggest lie we’ll hear all year… “I don’t need to celebrate Valentine’s Day, my husband (boyfriend, etc.) loves me 365 days a year!” Ugh, that’s just code for I don’t ever get anything, so I don’t expect anything; therefore, I need to leave a public message so the rest of the women in my office won’t pity me! The only thing worse than that line, is the one that men post, “Valentine’s Day is just a hoax, a holiday made up by the greeting card companies (e.g. Hallmark).” JEEZ! There is a day to celebrate mothers, fathers, etc. It doesnt mean we don’t love them the rest of the year. It’s simply a day to celebrate sweethearts. You HAVE to celebrate Valentine’s Day, but it’s not about expensive jewelry, roses, etc., it’s the GESTURE! Write her a note on the bathroom mirror, make her a card, frame your favorite song lyrics, etc. My favorite Valentine’s gift was from Devin. He was around 8 years old. He brought me a large blue plastic drinking mug, inside the mug was a smashed-up paper towel and hanging, about 18 inches out of the mug was one long stem red rose. My favorite part was the smile on his face when he came walking into my office to deliver it. So, why the 20 day notice? Well, it’s a heads up, because come Saturday you’re down to 2 weeks. If you’re planning on buying flowers you need to be thinking ahead so the flowers don’t show up that night. If you need to make reservations you better start now; the 14th falling on a Saturday will make places extra booked. And, lastly because if you really want to be thoughtful this will give you a few weeks to dig deep into your soul and create her a homemade Hallmark. Oh, and by the way, no woman is off the hook. The boys deserve to be treated like sweethearts too!
