20 hrs · Saint Catharines A small update on the EMPLOYMENT SUPPORTS changes: We dont know yet what the program will look like or what they are hoping it will look like. We dont know if the program will be mandatory (with right of appeal) or discretionary. All we know is that it will involve collapsing the four employment benefits for OW into ONE benefit and provide $1200 per year. And collapse the ODSP benefits (three of them) into one and provide $1800 a year. It will no longer be in the form of work benefit, e.g. the $100 a month people with earnings get added to their cheques. We dont know what shape it will take and what kind of expenses will be eligible and who can claim them. But it looks like they are pulling their scam again by dividing disabled and non-disabled by allowing say, the $1800 per year for the actual ODSP recipient in the family AND only $1200 for any other family member that is on the benefit unit but is not on ODSP themselves. It is not clear how family members would be able to claim this benefit either. It comes with more questions than answers. However, we have time to deep six this if we can. Because the budget was late due to the election and September is only around the corner, the changes will be made effective April 1, 2015, and those in receipt of the work related benefit will get it for six more months after that and then ...? Of course, the questions begin. My first question is: If the government takes something away from those that work, what are they willing to put back in?
