20 years ago today, I started my first real job as a concept artist at Cyber Warrior, a start-up video game company in Fair Lawn, NJ. I worked there for 4+ years, eventually managing a team of 8 artists, writers, and designers. The game was called Rubies of Eventide, and it went through various versions...sadly, the version of the game that I had helped create was never released. There was a release a few years after I left, but it had changed considerably. Still, CW was a fun job for the most part, and I learned a lot while there...some skills I still use to this day. This illustration was used as a t-shirt design (which I think I still have stored away someplace), but it was intended to be a cover for an online comic book (the web started becoming prevalent during this time). These main characters would have starred in the comics story, following the plot of the game, meeting new characters, revealing secrets, and telling an additional tale that did not fit into the game itself. I designed the big guy in the back, and other members of team designed the rest. Some day, Id love to dust off these characters and stories and publish their adventures, which have been in my head for decades. Yeah...in my free time! :)
