Around this time nine years ago today, the Boston Red Sox traded - TopicsExpress

Around this time nine years ago today, the Boston Red Sox traded away the face of the franchise and the favorite player of every kid born into Red Sox Nation during the 90s, Normar Garciaparra, for Gold Glove winners Orlando Cabrera and Doug Mientkiewicz. I still remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when the trade was announced. As it turns out, Cabrera and Mientkiewicz were two keys to the first Red Sox World Series title in 86 years. For as long as I live, no season of baseball will ever eclipse the magic of "The Idiots" beating all odds (and best of all, the New York Yankees) en route to breaking the curse, and the unforgettable push to the playoffs started on July 31, 2004!
