20 years ago today, a man tortured by the duality of human impulses, driven by passion and embittered by a disgusting American pop culture, political lies and rhetoric, took his own life. He expressed my personal angst through his abrasive nature and performance, and yet he never found the freedom so many of us in our generation were able to obtain later on. I resented him for a time; first because I lacked the courage to burn as brightly and as quickly, and later because I realized I craved a voice that could speak my language that would shine a light on the solution to the inner turmoil. In his death I felt he was saying there was no end in sight worth living for, but instead he was admitting that his personal drive had taken him too far too quickly and he didnt want to shoulder the burden of an entire generation.
