20 years on Vesak Day, you left us peacefully. I remembered your serene body lying on the makeshift bed made up of towels I had prepared for you the night before. I bade you good night & kissed your forehead, & watched you fall asleep breathing so faintly. You left us quietly the following morning. I wrapped you up gently in a coral pink towel while Dad dug up the soil below a growing palm tree for your final resting place. Mum said I knelt beside you for what seemed like hours & cried so bad. Dad said you were such a good dog that never gave us issues. You were there before I was born. We were constant companions. You were fiercly protective & had the guts of a lion despite your tiny frame for a Pomeranian. You were there when my younger brother was born. You tolerated his countless mischiefs. You didnt seem to mind even when he covered your bushy tail in his baby drool. We watched the Mickey Mouse Club on TV together on the tan brown sofa in the living room every weekend over a cup of hot Milo, which we shared from the same cup as I fed you through my stirring spoon. You loved Milo served to you spoon by spoon. You looked so adorable lapping every drop. And I remembered how you would fall asleep lying in my short skinny arms like a child before the end of the kids program probably because you liked The Little Mermaid over Mickey. We loved you so very much & you were like my parents first child. No, you were my parents first child. So much love they had for you that we adopted some of your siblings. I have carried these pictures of you in my wallet for the last 20 years - I want you close to me always. I have marked your name on 20 calendars till date on Vesak Day to remember you. I featured you many times in my wedding videos. I wanted you to share my joy. You taught me how to be kind to other animals. You taught us about the joy and completeness pets bring to a home. You led a hearty long life & we are grateful for that. On Vesak Day just like every passing year, I think about you ever so fondly. I hope you are well in doggy heaven & made many new friends. Love you forever & always our beloved Tango...
