2013-14 College Application Deadlines and Information 1. Apply to 4-year colleges as early as possible. At many colleges the admission standards for incoming freshmen rise significantly as the freshman class fills up so you have a better chance of acceptance if you get your application in early. 2. Carefully read the entire application. See if your counselor has to submit a recommendation form. DO NOT DROP OFF APPLICATIONS IN GUIDANCE WITHOUT TALKING TO YOUR COUNSELOR FIRST. We have senior information forms and other directions to give to you. Counselors must have 3 weeks to complete the first application that needs a letter of recommendation, and 1 week for later additional applications. A COMPLETE application packet consists of: The application The application fee or fee waiver An official transcript sent by our registrar. Decide (with your counselor) who will request this to avoid duplication. Electronic transcripts take 4-5 business days to arrive. They do NOT reach the college admissions office instantly. An official SAT or ACT score sent from the testing service Leon High School does NOT submit your test scores. SAT collegeboard.org ACT actstudent.org NOTE: Many schools also require A Counselor’s Recommendation (look for a form in the application package) and possibly a Teacher’s recommendation as well At least one essay. Your application will NOT be considered “complete” until the college has received ALL of these items. Liberal Arts Math is NOT accepted by four year universities and is NOT accepted by Bright Futures except for the Gold Seal Vocational Scholarship. Also, for college admission and Bright Futures, all online courses must be finished BEFORE your graduation date. You may be eligible for a waiver of your college application fee(s) if you have previously qualified for a waiver of SAT or ACT fees. College application fee waivers are available in the guidance office.
