The Women: Priscah Jeptoo showwed shes one of the sports greatest, running 2:18:39 to win the NYC Marathon making up a 3-1/2 minute deficit and running a huge negative split. Buzunesh Deba made a heroic attempt to win from the start, but ended second for the second year in a row, finishing in 2:25:56. Jelena Prokopcuka ran a strong race to gain third place - her best placing at New York since her wins in 2006/2007 and third place in 2008. Adriana Nelson was top American, a good followup on her 2013 USA Half Marathon champion title. The Men: A large pack of men remained together longer than is typical at the New York City Marathon, but ultimately Geoffrey Mutai ran away and proved why he owns the fastest marathon time ever run... His 2:08:24 into a headwind was a great win. Tsegaye Kebede ran strong to second place in 2:09:15 - and ensured his win of the $500K WMM bonus. April Lusapho of South Africa was third in 2;09:45.
