2013 has been a particularly early and bad season for barnacles fouling props and running gear. Symptoms include inability to achieve normal cruising speed and/or rpms. Black exhaust smoke and even reduced raw water flow. If you are experiencing any of these you need to get your running gear (prop(s), rudder(s), and shaft(s)) and bottom cleaned ASAP. A fouled prop is very hard on your engine and terrible for fuel economy! Also, if your running gear is fouled that badly then it is more than likely that you will need to change your zinc(s). Make sure to have spare zincs on hand or notify your diver of the types and quantity of zincs your boat requires.
