2014-06-23 MOZAMBIQUE MAIN OPPOSITION CONTINUES TO ATTACK CONVOYS IN CENTRAL MOZAMBIQUE Fighters of Mozambiques former rebel movement Renamo on Thursday attacked two convoys at Muxungue administrative post, in the central province of Sofala, local radio reported on Friday. According to the state Radio Mozambique, the first attack took place at 10:45 a.m. local time against a small truck, without human casualties. Quoting the spokesperson for the public relations at the police command in the provincial capital, Daniel Macuacua, the report said that there were slight damages to the vehicle, which was travelling from Muxungue to the Save river. At 17:00 p.m., the Renamo fighters also attacked a second convoy travelling the opposite side, but no casualties. The vehicle also sustained several bullet holes. The Renamo men fled into the bush when the security forces intervened in both attacks, according to Macuacua. Renamo, the countrys main opposition, has vowed to continue with its attacks until the government accepts all types of its demands during the talks resumed in the capital city Maputo earlier this year. From early June when Renamo suspended the truce, there have been frequent attacks against convoys, leaving several people injured, and Muxungue is the scene of continued clashes between the two sides since last May. Two convoys a day in each direction used to travel under military escort between Muxungue and the Save river, but the number has now been cut by half.
