2014 AOY Title Wrap Up. Well it’s now official I have won the AOY Bream Title for 2014, AOY is based off the 3 best ABT rounds out of the 4 event that was held in three states and below is a wrap up of the three rounds I fished in. Full Results - abt.org.au/?page_id=98 RD 1 – Sydney Harbour. I love Sydney Harbour and to me this is the best Bream tournament venue in Australia, I knew going into this event I needed a good result to get my AOY off to a good start. One thing you will notice in all my events is I focused on what I love to fish and that is throwing Zipbaits Lures close to Structure something I learnt up here on the Gold Coast. At this event I finished 3rd overall which was a good start and my non boater from day 1 took out the win that toped an awesome weekend. RD 2 – Yamba. This event to me was the one location I have always loved to fish but never had a good result at, months leading up to the event I prefished here as much as I could to find out how to catch big fish. I again stuck to my style of fishing and cranked Zipbaits on anything I could find plus travelled up and down the river up to 3 times a day to get my fish. The one fish I look back on that won me the AOY was a 1.09kg Kicker caught on day 1 of this event in less than 2 foot of water and secured my day 1 bag weight of 3.11kg. Overall at this event I finished 5th, I was over the moon about as I knew this would put me in prime position for the AOY going into my home event on the Gold Coast. RD 3 – Gold Coast Well it all came down to this event, if the pressure was not building enough to back up my win last year on this venue but I also knew I needed a top 3 to secure the AOY. A month leading up to the event the fishing turned bad with my normal areas not producing the bigger fish I normally catch. Because of the this I fished the GCBS event on the last day before the Prefish ban came into effect and went north for the first time ever and found mass loads of fish in small areas and I won that event, I knew that anglers would fish my normal areas so my plan on the ABT weekend was to get away from everyone and head north. Well the plan paid of big time with not seeing a boat all weekend and catching around 50 legals a day, the fish were not big but was enough to get me the win and secure the AOY title plus also secure my non boaters a 1st and 3rd place and the AOY non boater title too! I put my AOY title down to a few things, - Find a way you love to fish and stick to it and work on it over and over again to get the results - Fitness, over the last year I have lost over 30kgs and worked on my fitness and to me this was one huge advantage not just physically but also mentally. - Preparation is the key. A big thanks to everyone who has supported me over the years and especially my sponsors, Simrad, Nitro Marine – Triton Boats, Zipbaits, Lox Rods, Ego 2 Nets, Accu Cull culling kits and Elite Tournament Tackle Australia. Bring on the Grand Final week in 4 weeks!!
