This thing it durable- it has withstood almost daily banging (by my now 3 year old) for 1.5 years now, and it looks like it did when we bought it. I have no doubt it will last years longer. Plus, my child has played with this toy longer than any other. I used one of those sippy cup holders to attach the mallet to the handle so it wouldnt get lost. Great buy.The sound on this thing is not what youd imagine for a childrens toy. It is actually quite pleasant (maybe not so much when your toddler is randomly banging on it with all her might, but you get the picture). Anyway, my daughter is now nearly three and she has always really enjoyed playing with this and now that shes a bit more methodical and coordinated, she actually makes pleasant sound come out of this thing! Its incredibly durable, as it saw a lot of drops and bangs on our hardwood floors in her earlier years. I like that theres a clip to hold the mallet. I do wish the stick of the mallet was a little thicker so it wasnt bendable. My daughter used to bend the mallet a lot when she was younger and I worried it would snap in two.I bought this for my 2 month old (ok, a bit early, but it was really for me). He loves the sounds made by the instrument and squeals in delight. I also bought one as a gift for a 1 year old who cannot get enough of it.
